September 8-12 Block D/B

BLOCK B/D:
1. Completed discussion regarding climate change:
-did we establish the significance of climate change?
-did we define climate change?
-did we take a look at pro-climate change evidence?
-did we take a look at anti-climate change evidence?
-did we put it all into perspective? discuss how best to decide on a course of action?

2. LAB: looked at climate change website for more information and began rough draft of our opinion piece based on criteria. (see your handout)

LEARNER TO DO LIST:
1. we'll continue working on our topography projects
2. we'll continue working on our climate change opinion pieces
3. what's your eco-footprint? post an opinion on our class climate change wiki.

Sept. 2-5th Blocks B/D

This week we've been working on two foundational geography skills:
1. latitude and longitude review (added the concept of minutes)
2. topography: contour and profile drawing skills
We've also begun talking about climate change, or climate destabilization as a current events issue. We'll be taking a look at how we make informed decisions based on accurate evidence as a Social Studies citizenship strategy.

Introduction to Social Studies 9

Welcome to Social Studies 9!
This year our focus will be on:
1. North American Geography & Climate Issues
2. The Development of North America
3. Revolutions and the Development of Democracy
...There are many changes taking place during this era, much like changes taking place during the teen years. Big ideas of freedom, people's rights, as well as the birth of Canada are themes this semester. Hang on for the ride...
